all compound push, pull, squat, bend, twist, and lunge movements are all bodybuilding movements lol, in mma you can do bodybuilding exercises, you just cant live the lifestyle of a bodybuilder....as for isolation movements, there is nothing wrong about them, as long as there done after all the important compound movements are finished and the fighter doesn't rely on them as a strength source. fighters don't do isolation exercises? many of the greatest heavy weights did..mike tyson? one of the best punchers ever to walk the earth....did curls on a weekly basis...with close to 2 hundred pounds lol..evander holyfeild? did you know he was put on a body building routine buy a former mr olympia lee haney, who was a good friend of evander and also a student of evanders coach as well.dont tell me fighters dont do isolation exercises.... as an mma fighter you need many forms of strength, upper body and lower body plyometrical days=explosiveness=fast twitch, cross training should be done on those days as well as sprints for the lower-body plyo day.... and strength training days that require push, pull, squat bend, lunge and twist movements, which are all the basic movements the body can peform=slow twitch which gives us that real raw slow strength that is used at a maximum load at a slow- normal speed..put slow twitch and fast twitch together, you get strength & speed=power....next is isometrical strength, which that strength that allows you to hold positions for as long as possible, isometrics for CORE is the most basic example,....last is training for endurance which should be done twice a week 1-2 long distant runs, also helps the fighter maintain his fighting weight, keeps agile and loose, while keeping his heart rate active for long periods at a normal pace......these are thing you need to look at as a fighter if want to make it to the top....this is how all the pro's train, been a strength and conditioning coach for 12 years, 3 for mma, trained 1 amateur fighter that is now on a winning streak for the past two years and is now becoming a pro.. this is a professional advice im giving you newbs, if you think i have no say in the matter cause im just strength coach and not a fighter...I hold a blue belt in bjj as well as ranks in shotokan ,also several years experience,in thai and western boxing as well with plenty of sparring hours against amateur and pro fighters. im not trying to come off as a john Wayne, in fact i have no record, havent fought once in front of an audience,i only got into this sport as an experience to accelerate my career in fitness, but i will tell you its a great sport and healthy lifestyle... so for future advice dont rob yourself from what you think is wrong just because you hear its wrong....you need to get educated by real specialists is what it comes down to, not some idiot who believes every myth in history that has access to making his own web page.

Re: Why Bodybuilding Sucks for MMA

A few reasons I prefer functional movements over isolated movements.

Re: Why Bodybuilding Sucks for MMA

Bodybuilding isolates&doesn't establish good movement patterns just BULK&SYMETRY. Those 2 things will not make You a powerful&effective MMA fighter ever. Crossfit trains You to improve Power, Strength, Agility,Balance,Flexibility*,Speed, provides Cardiovascular Stamina&Endurance which are crucial to be a great MMA fighter...
